Liberty Teams

Have your children taken a TeenPact or other civics class? Now what do you do? Have your children competed in speech or debate and now want to use these skills in the real world? Have they been a page and are now interested in politics? Do you want to learn about civics and government? Do you want to give your student(s) an opportunity to grow in their leadership abilities? Do you want to serve together as a family and make a difference in our country? Do you want to enjoy fun fellowship with other families that share your values? Christian Homeschool Network-PAC has created a program to meet these needs and more. Our Liberty Teams are unique and can offer many opportunities to families and youth. CHN-PAC is a statewide non-partisan grassroots organization with the mandate to provide all members of independ-ent home educating families and youth with opportunities: 1) to gain practical knowledge and experience in civics and government and 2) to assist pro-family, pro-home schooling candidates with hands-on assistance in political campaign-ing. Our goals are that CHN-PAC will provide even more opportunities for home schoolers to get involved and become better educated in the political process, and to better focus the efforts of the independent home schooling community on relevant legislative issues. To learn more go to www.CHNPAC.org. CHN-PAC operates independently under the umbrella of the Christian Homeschool Network (CHN).

Lilac City Home School Band

with Janeen Graham
The fall is shaping up and people are signing up for another year of band. As I write this, there are only three weeks left until we start. Parts of me long to see the summer continue and have a longer vacation, and other parts are eager for the routine and structure of the school year. Part of that routine is band and the practicing that goes along with it. My youngest, Neriah, picked up his clarinet yesterday and started practicing it. After many weeks of letting it rest well, you get the picture. But it is fun to hear the music from all of my kids again as they get excited and geared up to participate in the band. I would love you to have that same experience. Contact Janeen, 462-2948 or e-mail if you are interested in joining us this fall. Click here for more the details.

Communicators for Christ

Coaching Cultural Communicators

Imagine you’re standing in front of a group. Someone asks you a question. Ready? Answer: What is the key to success? Did you stay calm and answer easily? Or did you panic, or freeze?

Most of us would rather die than answer a question in front of a group. Communicators for Christ believes that Christians must harness and use the skills of public speaking. We also believe you can! We don’t think the skills of communication, thinking clearly and speaking articulately are negotiable. It’s not like asking whether you want to play a musical instrument or be on the swim team. We believe it is absolutely necessary for every Christian young person to become an excellent communicator, because once you identify with Christ, you are communicating for Christ. Are you communicating effectively?

The local chapter of CFC, Voices of Youth, is hosting a conference in our area for the 2008 tour season the week of September 10 - 13 (location yet to be determined). We welcome your prayers and your participation. Become encouraged and ignited as you join together with this group of widely respected, Christian public speaking coaches and their award-winning student instructors. Find yourself in fast-paced, exciting workshops, one-on-one mentoring and exhilarating immersion into the mysterious world of communications. Kids from ages 7 - 18 love what happens at these conferences and parents are amazed! Whether you are a seasoned forensics competitor or a beginning public speaker, Communicators for Christ can bring passion and vision like you’ve never experienced it. Come away absolutely inspired and enabled. Log onto the website at www.CommunicatorsforChrist.com for more information, or contact Becky Mort. We’ll see you there!

This instruction is for students 5 years to high school at my home in the Spokane Valley. Younger children would experiment with drawing, paint, clay (air dry), crafts from recycled material, etc. Older students would learn drawing, wa-tercolor painting, and a little art appreciation. I have taught art through our home school co-op. Group classes are $12/hour (max 5 students); individual classes are $15/hour. Contact Marla, 218-7327, e-mail.
